Using the iPod and TabletPC in Teaching.
This summer, I learned to use the iPod and the Tablet PC in my classes. Instead of taking a laptop into the classroom, now I take my iPod. I made carefully numbered PowerPoint slides to show students how to access my course web pages, to emphasize important information in my syllabus, and to illustrate the kind of writing that I wanted to see in their papers. I also used the iPod to show short video clips.
For the Tablet PC, I am using the stylus function to mark papers which are sent in electronically. I use the computer “pen” to mark up the papers and write short comments in the margins; then I type up an end comment and email the papers back to the students. This enables me to return papers before class; unfortunately, the “written” comments are only visible on computers that have Microsoft Word installed on them.
